Lakeside House

This wooden villa was originally built in the turn of the century, now lovingly restored with an admirable attention to detail. While many original fixtures were lost, repair works went deep and reclaimed pieces such as ovens, doors and hardware have brought the period home to a tasteful glory and shows a real celebration of all things heritage. The wallpaper takes our breath away every time.

Having been mainly used as a holiday home, a significant volume of furniture, objects, books and art had accumulated over the relaxed years spent vacationing by the lake. The spatial organisation of the home needed careful revision in order to reduce feelings of clutter, and unique antique items needed to find their rightful places as well as new attractive pairings in order to be properly admired and used. The goal was to create an elevated home that remained comfortable and unfussy.

Neoclassical and Art Nouveau pieces are revered, combined and used in this home, and while decoration and elevation is evoked, the atmosphere remains calm and fresh, reflecting the Finnish cultural values of simplicity, functionality and a deep connection to nature.
